- Sponsored Community Service Project at Las Fincas to benefit families living in poverty
- Lunch at Parilla Mision with community representatives and host volunteers
SAIL’s 5 goals for the initial visit to NUAFA in January 2008 had immediate and long-term impact:
- Benefit children & families in need (immediate & emergency help): $150 donation was used to make 10 emergency food packages for destitute families. New clothes for 30+ daycare children were distributed to families throughout the year.
- Enhance quality of childcare (intermediate term impact): Donated water storage tank provided needed capacity following installation of running water; $500 for daycare food increased the nutritive value of meals for 5 weeks; food preparation equipment helps feed daycare children; educational resources, dual-language puzzles, toys, and art supplies provide learning activities; a printer/copier and supply of ink allowed NUAFA to help families apply for children’s food “scholarships”; $1,000 donation allowed NUAFA to move to a larger location in October 2008.
- Support job skill development (long term impact for women, their families & community): Sewing, baking and beauty salon supplies were used in classes/job training for women to help them support their families.
- Develop a relationship with NUAFA for potential ongoing mission partnership: SAIL’s commitment to provide operating expenses of $175/month for a year enabled NUAFA staff to focus on supporting families. SAIL has continued this ongoing support to date!
- Gain cross-cultural understanding of Mexican family life & values while sharing love of Jesus Christ: SAIL donated 9 Spanish bibles . . . Who knew this treasured gift would soon grow into the Bible Blessings ministry?
